Monthly Musings from the Studio - August

Welcoming August with the joyful excitement of a fresh new month and lots to be inspired by. I’ve set a few goals for the month ahead including getting back into my running routine (I really don’t know what’s happened, it has been months since I was in a good routine with it), finishing off 3 craft projects that I started in July & keeping up to a mini sketchbook to document the colours and inspiration of the month for my nature journal.

So whether you have goals set in mind or fancy being inspired, here’s a few ways to creatively and seasonally celebrate August...

Creative ways to celebrate the month of August…

  • Try printing with Nature, A fun way to create completely unique nature inspired prints suitable for all ages. You’ll have the best results with linens or cottons and can use anything to print with from leaves collected on a walk or even house plant cuttings for a more tropical look to celebrate the summer season.

  • Make your own flower crown, the perfect festival or garden party accessory. This technique can be applied to faux, fresh & dried florals.

  • Definitely recommend a car boot sale morning hunting for treasures. I spent both mornings of the last two weekends out looking for more ceramics, books and second hand bargains to fill my house with. The tulip jug in the picture above was a £1 steal from a car boot last year - can you believe it?! It really is such a fun morning & a much more sustainable way to shop!

  • Whilst on the subject of Sustainability I wanted to recommend Emilie from Simply Sustainable Living new book! Since it being published I’ve bought a few copies to gift to friends who are loving it just as much as me and I’m so excited to get making some of my own beauty product this month, first up the orange blossom tangle spray!

  • If you’re looking to learn something creative this month, come & join me for a Brush Lettering workshop. I’m hosting 24 online workshops for Hobbycraft over August and September and can’t wait to share my love of lettering with even more people this year! Tickets are just £25 and include everything you need for the session & kits are delivered to your door!

  • Finally some small moments of joy that I’m looking forward to celebrating this month: Cosmos in full bloom, Dahlias starting to appear and lots more early morning cups of tea in the garden whilst we enjoy these brighter mornings!
