Seasonal musings from the studio- January

As we head into a new month and new year I’m looking forward to embracing the winter after the twinkly lights of christmas have been packed away, although it’s harder there’s lots of mid winter magic to be found. It’s also the perfect month for cosying up and getting creative in the darker evenings…

Creative ways to celebrate the month of January…

  • For me wreaths aren’t just for Christmas, they are a wonderful way to remind us of the cycle of the seasons and bring some nature magic into our homes. If you use a Rattan base like I have here you’ll be able to reuse each season and it also makes its easy to attach twigs, foliage and foraged finds.

  • I shared on Instagram how important I’ve found slowing down over the festive break and finding the joy in just creating for the fun so if you are looking to get creative but don’t know where to start try some of my gentle creative ideas for exploring colours, patterns and composition.

  • Indoor Bulbs! I’ve potted up lots of hyacinths, paperwhites and Narcissus in bowls, dishes and pots and spread around the house. They are a great way of having flowers growing in your home during these darker months and a lovely reminder that Spring is on its way soon.

  • Start a Nature Journal, although you might think there’s not much to journal about in January there is plenty of beauty to be found in mid winter from frosty mornings and crisp sunrises to interesting compositions in the trees and hedgerow…

  • And if you fancy trying something new and learning how to paint with watercolours I’m running a Winter botanical painting workshop online next month, book your space and have something creative to look forward too in the next few weeks…

My January Journal so far…
