Seasonal Musings from the Studio- May

Seasonal Musings from the Studio - May

Heading into a new month and I’d definitely forgotten how much I love May time, there feels like there’s been a big shift and all of a sudden we’re racing towards summertime. Although I say this whilst it’s raining outside however just think how lovely and fresh everything will look tomorrow after a good watering!

Creative ways to celebrate the month of May…

  • Explore edible flowers. Pansies and violets are in season this month and you can add a touch of floral magic to drinks with friends (just pop them in the glasses) or have a go at making floral biscuits.

  • Cook seasonally! This month I’ve set myself a challenge to explore cooking with organic seasonal produce. I find cooking a nice relaxing creative outlet for the end of the day and with so much in season I thought May would be a great time to start embracing the seasons in the kitchen as well as the studio. I’m going to share a blog post at the end of the month about it so if there’s anything you want to know, pop me a message and I will note down to cover it in the post. If you fancy trying some seasonal recipes, I’m enjoying lots from the Riverford organic book.

  • If you’re planning a summer celebration I’ve shared lots of new projects over on Hobbycraft on how to create Name places, table names, favours and more. It doesn’t have to be a wedding you make them for, the seed bombs with hand-lettered tags would be perfect gifts for friends with summer birthdays and if you start crafting now you can enjoy creating slowly for the summer celebrations ahead.

  • Head out for an early morning walk, if you can set your alarm for half an hour earlier it really it magic to start the day outside walking.

  • One of my favourite things about the warmer months is eating dinner in the garden. I also love having friends over and making the garden look pretty with fabric thrown over the table, flowers and simple crafted items, like these jute placemats & coasters. They are a brilliant craft for beginners, the repetitive technique of wrapping the rope is really mindful and you’ll be able to create something useful for your home and garden in an afternoon.

  • And finally, I’m excited to share my new seasonal workshop which launches in June and will run every month until October - Painting from the Garden. Each month we will be exploring flowers of the season with the June edition covering how to paint Scabious, Cosmos, Sweetpeas, Peonies, Phlox and more!
