Simple creative table settings

With celebrations and events back in our diaries I thought I’d share a few simple creative ways to elevate your table settings this summer. These ideas aren’t just for big celebrations, as this year has taught us just spending time with friends and family in the garden is a celebration in itself so if you fancy getting creative with your table here’s how..

Hand lettered Place names

Place names are a gorgeous touch for any table and you can be totally creative with how you make these from luggage tags, seashells, stones, leaves or even fruit, there are endless surfaces and objects you can Brush Letter onto to create personalised place names for any theme. I decided on figs for this mid summer inspired setting, I thought the purple tones complimented the fabric well and loved the idea of the gold pen with them.

Mini wreaths

Wreaths are a beautiful decoration that can be used all year round to add a touch of botanical beauty to your table. You simply need to create a circle shape with your floristry wire, working to the size you’d like your wreath to be and winding your wire over itself to secure. Take a piece of foliage (or herbs such as rosemary and thyme also work well for these) and wrap around the wire securing at the end…

Tips and tricks for your styling your table

  • Need a tablecloth? Head to a charity shop and you’ll be able to find an array of gorgeous fabrics for a couple of pounds which are ideal for throwing over the table for an immediate makeover.

  • Think about your colour palette, for this table I wanted it to look grown up , relaxed and celebrate the summer so used deep colours like the ochre in the napkins, darker hues of purple in the fruits but then added lighter tones in the candles and florals in to balance it. This helps it look less formally coordinated but still considered.

  • Create interest with height, use different height candles, or different sized candlesticks to help.

  • Flowers and fruit are one of my favourite combinations for styling tables… zesty lemons, juicy peaches, wild strawberries, figs and cherries all go beautifully with seasonal flowers and again add interest at a different level.

  • Upcycle what you have… Give old linens a makeover with my guide for dyeing with avocados, berries and tumeric.
