Monthly Musings from the Studio - July

July has arrived and although started rather wet, has turned into a scorcher of a month! I visited the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show at the start of the month (in the big days of those downpours) which despite the weather, was lovely. There were lots of gorgeous gardens- I mean just look at those colours above, talks and displays to feel inspired by as well as the beautiful grounds of Hampton Court itself.

But whatever the weather there are plenty of ways to slow down & creatively celebrate July.

Creative ways to celebrate the month of July…

  • Embrace the lighter mornings and evenings. I’ve been meeting friends as early as 6.30am for walks and coffee because it’s so light and we can enjoy an hour stroll and a coffee before we start our working day. I know when it comes to winter I’ll miss these peaceful early mornings out in nature and wish for longer days. Or just set a bit of a earlier alarm to enjoy a cup of tea in bed with the sun shining in!

  • Have a go at making Jam, ideal for the last days of Wimbledon. And I have to say on a scone, its Jam first for me!

  • Enjoy adding some jazz to your table settings. I shared ideas for simple creative table settings earlier in the month for if you’re feeling fancy with friends and family or if you are thinking about styling upcoming celebrations and get togethers!

  • Head out for a picnic! I’ve worked with Hobbycraft to create a more sustainable picnic set with DIYs for beeswax wraps, natural dyeing and upcycling old bowls with painterly florals.

  • Save your flower and foliage stems for drying, just simple hang up them up in bunches to dry out ready for autumn.

  • And mostly enjoy the wonderful vibrant colours that nature shows us through the month of July. As I said in my new book Paint, Make, Create ‘‘Summer is all about bright bold colours that make your heart sing and warm evenings in the garden with friends and family’’. I don’t think I was allowed to say fizz in my book but that too, cheers lovelies!
