Monthly Musings from the Studio - June
As we move through June I wanted to share some of the creative ways I will be celebrating and embracing the month. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know that all of my creative projects from crafts, paintings, illustrations & books are all inspired by the changing seasons and nature but alongside seasonality inspiring my work it also inspires other parts of my life as well. With each month brings new flowers & nature to be inspired by & new ways we can can slow down, appreciate and celebrate.
Creative ways to celebrate the month of June…
Invite friends over for a summer lunch, pop a tablecloth on the table ( I sometimes even just use a piece of material from my fabric stash), decorate the table with seasonal blooms in jam jars or bud vases and enjoy the sunshine in your garden. You can find my tips for jam jar arrangements here.
Why not have a go at making Elderflower Cordial - super simple and a lovely way to embrace what is in season outside.
Head out foraging, if you’re unsure where to start Tiffany Francis Baker has written and illustrated a beautiful concise guide for foraging fruits, nuts and seeds, flowers, greens and vegetables, herbs, roots, whole plants, fungi, seaweeds and shellfish in the UK & Europe. Grab a copy here
Bring some of the outside in, there is an abundance of beautiful flowers in bloom this month so find a local florist or grower who sells British blooms to bring some of that flower joy into your home. You can find a full list of cut flower farms here.
There’s so much to be inspired by in June which makes it the perfect time to start Nature journaling, If you don’t know where to start I’ve previously shared some tips and tricks to get started in Nature Journaling here.
And if you’re a bit wary of spending a lot of time outside, enjoy cooler crafting at home with my floral soap tutorial for Hobbycraft, ideal for all those rose petals around at the moment!
