Seasonal Musings from the Studio - June

As we head towards the Summer Solstice, I’m embracing the long light days of early June, enjoying spotting all of the gardens & hedgerows completely explode with flowers and wildlife! I’m currently working on a new collection of fabric designs (very exciting!) and feeling completely inspired by beautiful colours so I have enjoyed taking lots of photos to reference colour palettes and compositions from,
and to add to my nature journal.

Creative ways to celebrate the month of June…

  • Gather in the Garden! I’ve shared a collection of super simple craft projects to add colour and seasonality to your garden. Add splashes of colour to the table with painted trays, craft a no-sew ribbon garland, paint daisy print candles & make nature bowls and arrange an affordable flower display. I’ve shared step by steps for each of the projects over on my Creative Journal

  • As I’ve mentioned in last month’s newsletter, I’ve been trying to explore seasonal cooking and ways to lessen my waste, so I was delighted to create a few kitchen-inspired Sustainable craft ideas for Hobbycraft including these refillable jars for the cupboard. Making your own storage and heading to your local refill shop is a really simple but effective way to reduce your waste and store food. I’m looking forward to sharing more from this collection of projects this month.

  • I’ve contributed 3 floral craft projects in the June issue of The Simple Things magazine to get you ready to head out on an adventure and capture the magic of summer. Learn how to make your own flower press, field notebook and sew and print a drawstring bag. You can read more about the projects on my Creative Journal.

  • It’s Elderflower season! I’ve loved reading more about The Elder Tree, its myths, magics and medicine on this blog post. I really enjoy finding out more about folklore and nature, I find it fascinating and great escapism getting lost in books and podcasts.

  • Simply enjoy the magic of nature in June, head out walking, and look for the flowers, wildlife, and colours that inspire you. I always say to my nature journaling groups that simply heading for a walk, taking moments to notice what we can see, smell, hear, and touch and how it makes us feel is so mindful and good for our wellbeing and creativity.

    My June Journal so far…
