Gather in the Garden
Gather in the Garden
As we head into the Summer months of the year, the simple joy of spending time in the garden is something I’ll never take for granted, whether it’s a early morning coffee listening to the birds, popping out for a lunch break in the sunshine or inviting friends over for fizz in the evening, it truly is one of my favourite places to be.
With that in mind, I wanted to share some very simple but effective ways to add a splash of creativity to your space and create a beautiful summer table with just a few simple crafts…
Craft a simple no-sew ribbon garland
Craft a joyful ribbon garland perfect for adding a pop of colour to garden gatherings!
You will need: Satin Ribbons & a pair of scissors
Begin by cutting a length of ribbon to your desired garland length & then cutting shorter lengths (around 15cm) of various colours. Group these together with 4/5 pieces per group & work along the garland tying the groups of ribbons in a simple knot so the ends are hanging loose, leaving equal space as you work along the length.
Paint your own Candles
Paint colourful candles with simple motifs to add a touch of floral creativity to your garden table…
You will need: Candles & Posca pens
Using the white posca pen add 5 petal floral shapes along the sides of the candle, these can be drawn by drawing out teardrop shapes and joining 5 at a centre point, colour in the teardrop shapes and repeat. Once dry take the yellow posca pen and dot circles onto the white florals to create your ditsy daisy pattern.
Create Colourful trays
Add splashes of your favourite colours to the garden table with colourful serving trays that also work well as trinket dishes or display trays in your home once the garden party is over.
You will need: Tray set, Acrylic paint in your chosen colours & a Paint Brush
Pop a sheet of newspaper or old paper on the table & simply paint each tray in a layer of your chosen acrylic paint. Leave to dry.
Create a floral display
Instead of placing a large bouquet in the middle of the table, split your stems into smaller vases to dot round the back table creating a larger floral display. You only need 2 or three stems per vase and ideally, mix between your stem heights to create more movement and height in your table.
Create a Nature Bowl
I saw my Aunty dot these around her garden at our last family party and thought what a great idea it was! Fill large bowls with water and pop in shells, flower heads and petals to create pretty table decorations perfect for any summer get together! It would be lovely to see how these bowls change through summer to autumn if you’re picking from the garden.
I hope these ideas have inspired you, creativity doesn’t need to be complicated or expensive and with simple touches like these, you can transform any garden table into a magical summer setting…
