Sustainable Christmas Crafts - Natural Wall Hanging

Sustainable Christmas Crafts Natural Wall Hanging

The final weekend before Christmas is prime crafting time for me. The presents are (mostly) wrapped, work has slowed down and I can take a little time to enjoy being creative and adding some seasonal cheer to my home. On my list to create this weekend is a sustainable natural wall hanging (along with some painted candles for the Christmas table). Made with dried oranges, cinnamon sticks and foraged natural treasures such as pine cones and berries these decorative hangings add maximum Christmas impact with no environmental detriment. Created for the Hobbycraft Ideas Hub, this how to is wonderful for all levels of crafters who enjoy sustainable creations which celebrate nature’s bounty at this time of year. Perhaps the best thing is that they are totally unique to you and reflective of your surroundings.

Sustainable Natural Christmas Wall Hanging | How To

Gather your materials together ready to create your wall hanging, you can use anything natural and seasonal for this project so think foraged foliage, cinnamon sticks, dried orange slices (you can make these yourself and they fill your house with the most amazing aroma, or if you’re short on time you can buy these ready made).

Cut your lengths of twine to hang from the branch. I have used five but you could make this hanging as big or small as you’d like. Have a think about where you are going to hang it and work out from there what overall size you’d like to create

Begin stringing together your natural items, mixing between them at each knot along your string. The oranges are great for bringing colour to the hangings and work well in-between foliage and berries. Try and keep an equal-isa gap in between each item along the twine.

Attach each length of adorned twine to your stick, spaced equally, before adding another length of twine tied to each end of the stick which you will use to hang up your natural wall hanging. Hang up, pride of place, and delight in your new Christmas decoration.
